It was quite a beautiful day for January - mild temperatures, little ice or snow and the sun peeked out a few times.  I'm getting over a sinus infection, but I couldn't let the opportunity go to waste, so after grooming Phoenix, I saddled him up and went for a ride down the driveway and back, then up Settlement Road, past the rock.  We had to do serpentines through the field on the way back down from the driveway because he wanted to take off and he spooked at the water in the ditch - need to do some desensitizing to that!

January 10, 2009

Courtney came out to trim the boys at 10:00 today and we also had a special guest: Ashley came out for the first time since we left SCF.  We groomed in the barn afterwards and gave them their buckets, but they were anxious to get out to the riding ring and their hay.  We did a detour on the way, though - we went up the hayfield hill to show Ashley where to pick up the trail.  She jogged around with Onyx and I did Lunging for Respect - Stage 1 with Phee, then we finally let them have their hay while we mucked stalls.

It was a bit cold and windy today and Onyx was acting like a complete dufus, which set Phoenix off, too, so I didn't ride them.  We took them for a fairly long walk up to Acey's then down past the creek and they were jumpy and prancing quite a bit.  We turned them out in the side pasture while we mucked the shelter and they were quiet there but then Onyx started bucking and kicking when they went back to the corral.
