Courtney Swann came out to trim the horses' hooves today. Since Onyx was kicking on Tuesday I went out early to do some groundwork with him and get him listening. He was the perfect horse - almost fell asleep standing there! Phoenix was the dope today and yanked his feet away a few times so I had to school him. Both had thrush, so we'll have to get the CopperSept out. Onyx is growing his sole faster than his wall, so Courtney cautioned us to avoid hard surfaces and lots of heavy work - the opposite of what Heidi recommended!

Absolutely gorgeous day, so we put both boys to work in the roundpen, then gave them baths. They were almost duplicates of each other, too. They both kicked up the first time I asked them to canter, but settled down immediately afterwards and changed direction perfectly, every time. I desensitized both to the stick and string after and Phoenix even did it at liberty. They both stood well for their baths, then we took them for a walk to Boot Hill and back through the hayfield to dry off. Phoenix has the remains of a burst abcess on his left front so I treated it with hydrogen peroxide - I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Dave was off today, so he took the kittens to the vet and had their booster shots done. They also got a treatment for ear mites but otherwise seem to be in good health. Went for a bareback ride on Onyx tonight in the field beside the creek. Had to do lots of serpentines and circles on the way out because he was so distracted by the grass. Also did some trotting circles in the yard and he was much better. Did some Lungeing for Respect - Stage 2 with Phoenix, too!
