It was unbearably hot today - 32 degrees Celsius and no breeze - so we didn't torture the horses by doing anything too extreme. Rob and Elsa had to go to a family function this afternoon / evening, however, so we volunteered to come out and water and grain the ones who needed it. I pulled some burrs out of Onyx's forelock and put fly spray on Phoenix but that was about it. We also stopped at Brubacher's and picked up our newly-cleaned winter blankets and some new type of hoof dressing to hydrate the hoof.

I have a whole new set of expectations with the boys after the clinic! Flexing in the pasture and backing them to their grooming stations! I desensitized a bit then yielded the hindquarters and did LFR-2 with Phoenix. He was a little confused since we haven't done that for awhile but was pretty good. More flexing and desensitizing, then cruising bareback at the trot. LFR-1, yielding the hindquarters and desensitizing with Onyx then the thunderstorms set in and we got soaked!

Finally a nice night and the boys are on turn-out 24/7 now so there were no stalls to muck, either. After grooming, I rode both of them in their pasture. Phee was first: we worked on trotting circles near the gate and resting away from it and Onyx, and he did very well. Onyx was good, too - he stood and waited for cues, even when Dave led Phee away. Had a bit of a scary moment as Onyx spooked going down the hill at the back of the pasture, but I probably contributed to it. We let them graze for a bit after.

Rain tonight, so just gave the horses their buckets and headed into the house.
